Many Muslims want to memorize the Qur’an and teach their children parts of the Qur’an, but they find it difficult to consolidated the memorization and verses, and forget the verses, so we will guide you to steps to memorize and consolidate the Holy Qur’an in your minds.

What are the practical steps to memorize the Qur’an?

 1- Correcting pronunciation and recitation:
Correcting pronunciation is the first step to memorizing the Qur’an, because you cannot memorize the Qur’an on your own, even if you are an expert in the Arabic language, so you have to learn the Qur’an from a good Qur’an teacher, that he can correct your recitation, because the Qur’an contains many verses that occur in a way that is uncommon in the grammar of the Arabic language.

2- Commitment to a daily limit for memorizing the Qur’an:
In order to be able to memorize the Qur’an, you must limit for some verses of Surahs “chapters” of the Qur’an that you will memorize. one should resist the temptation to move to a new portion of the Qur’an before perfecting the memorization of the current portion that agrees with the set limit.

3- Continuous recitation and review:
Listen to the specific Surahs that you review repeatedly during the day and recite it with the correct pronunciation. This will make you memorize the verses easier. You can repeat the reading before going to bed, while waiting for the truck, when doing anything else. Reading the Qur’an is not limited to a specific time, but you can review it at any time of the day.

4- Reciting in a Melodic Tone:
The Qur’an must be recited with melody and Tajweed during memorization in order to improve reading and pronunciation, help to consolidate memorization and accustom the tongue to a specific tone of voice, which will make it detect errors if the balance or harmony is disturbed. It also conforms to the Sunnah of the Prophet “PBUH”, He used to recite the Qur’an in a chant and calmly.

5- Use the same (Mushaf):
The eye memorizes first, The eye memorizes the places and shapes of verses in the Qur’an. Therefore, the memorizer of the Qur’an must have the same “Mushaf” of Qur’an from which to read and memorize it in order to help him memorize faster.

6- Understanding the texts of the Qur’an:
One of the greatest things that aids memorization is understanding the memorized verses and knowing how they relate to each other. Therefore, the memorizer must read the interpretation of some of the verses and surahs that he has memorized, and he must be present in mind when reading in order to make it easy for him to recall the verses. However, he doesn’t rely on understanding for memorization, but rather on repeating and repeating it to make it easier for him to memorize.

7- Linking the verses:
The Qur’an is similar in it’s meanings and words, so one of the important things that facilitates the process of memorizing the Qur’an is linking the verses together after completing the memorization of the surah. When the verses are interconnected and perfect, memorizing the verses becomes easy and reciting them without difficulty, while being careful to repeat them with continuous recitation.

8- Recitation to others:
The memorizer shouldn’t reciting what he memorized to himself, but he should test his memorization by reciting the verses to someone else – who proficient in the Qur’an – so the memorizer will pay attention to any errors in pronunciation, formation, or forgetfulness that he may make. Often, an individual among us memorizes the surah incorrectly and doesn’t pay attention. Therefore, even when looking at the Qur’an, Therefore, reciting the Qur’an to someone is a good way to correct the mistake.”

9- Continuous review of what has been memorized:
The Qur’an is different from any other subject that a person memorizes. As soon as the memorizer of the Qur’an neglects to read, he forgets what he has memorized. Therefore, after completing the memorization of a particular surah, he should be careful to recite it in the prayers by heart, remember it and review it from time to time.

10- Participate in programs to memorize the Qur’an:
The memorizer – after God – is helped to find companions who will help him on his journey with the Qur’an, who shares the same goals with them, becomes familiar with them, and learns from him and they learn from him.

11- Start with the surahs and the easier parts:
Many people find certain surahs easy, such as Surat Youssef, Al-Kahf, Taha, Maryam, and Juz Amma and Tabarak. If you start memorizing the surahs that you find easy, this will be an encouragement to the soul and an incentive to continue and follow up, with God Almighty’s permission and help.
